Travel

The Travel Group is very active and welcomes all RPS members. We enjoy hearing members' ideas, seeing new images in the galleries, learning from one another and meeting when possible.

All RPS members are welcome to join the Travel Group.

The Group was formed in 1990 to promote the enjoyment and understanding of travel photography: of trying to capture the spirit of places we visit and, through photography, sharing that spirit with others. The Group provides a forum where members can improve their knowledge and exchange views regarding travel photography and related issues.

The Group is at its liveliest and most effective when there is discussion involving a wide range of members.

Roads Less Travelled

11-12 October 2025

A mix of inspiring speakers and activities has been brought together to mark the 55th anniversary of the  formation of the RPS Travel Group.  At a time when journeying to ‘off the beaten track’ places was much less easy than it is now, one of the Group’s primary purposes was to enable travel to unusual destinations.  We do that much more independently now and perhaps put more emphasis on sharing the stories of our travels.

This weekend brings together a range of speakers and skills that will help each of us move forward on our photographic journey and have fun following our chosen paths. The speakers are Ash Bhardwaj, Peter Brisley, Nat Coalson, Sue O'Connell, Leigh Preston, Chris Roche and Dr. Lindsay Stringer.

The Life (and Death) of a Long Term Project

Janey Devine FRPS

A firm believer in the value of projects, for the last five years Janey has been working on a long term documentary project looking at some of the important issues affecting our city centres today. She describes some of the twists and turns and explains the reason behind the key decisions that have shaped the development of the project. Janey will also aim to show how similar approaches can be used in Travel photography.

Share and Chat

An informal gathering of members of the Travel Group and, often, participants from beyond the Group to share travellers' tales and images.

These sessions depend very much on Group member involvement. They are not recorded.

This is a really good way to put names to faces and become more engaged with the Group, so do log-in.

If you can offer an item for a future gathering, please contact David Short (travelevents@rps.org)
